Solid wood lives and breathes with the seasons. A few habits will keep it stable all year:
Spring — damp control: In humid spells, keep windows shut in the early morning and evening; hold indoor humidity at 40–60% with a dehumidifier, and tuck charcoal sachets into cabinets.
Summer — sun care: Avoid prolonged direct sunlight; curtains slow surface fading. Keep air-conditioner vents from blowing directly onto furniture.
Autumn — moisture top-up: Once heating starts, add plants or a humidifier to prevent cracking; reapply hardwax oil thinly every 12–18 months.
Winter — temperature care: Keep heaters at least 50cm away; lift furniture when moving it rather than dragging, protecting both floors and joints.
For daily cleaning, wipe along the grain with a damp soft cotton cloth — avoid alcohol and bleach. Fine scratches can be buffed out with a wax stick.
